What We Do

Our Objectives:

Educating the legal profession and the public to the dangers of war
Commenting on the effect that government policies and laws may have on lasting peace
Encouraging and supporting legal research into peace, war & disarmament
Promoting peaceful strategies for international conflict resolution
Presenting legal briefs and position papers on these issues
Providing legal advice to those working for peace through non-violent means

We work for disarmament and to establish national and international laws that will build peace with justice.

Past Activities:

We have:

Jointly (with CBA) sponsored the first international conference on law in the nuclear age.
Participated in the Consultative Group on Disarmament and Arms Control in  Ottawa.
Have been represented at the Nuclear Warfare Tribunal in London, England.
Participated in the call for, and legal research in preparation for, an Advisory Opinion from the International Court of Justice on the legality of the threat of use and the use of nuclear weapons.
Public education on the legality of nuclear weapons and on the legal problems with landmines.
Submitted briefs to the Standing Committees on Foreign Affairs and National Defense.
Participated in meetings with key politicians and government officials.

We publish the LSR/AFCS "Newsletter" approximately 3-4 times per year.
